Erbil, two years on
Our northern door, its regulars, and the case that changes every week.
Two years ago we opened a door in Erbil with one case, one bench for small repairs and a coffee pot that has not been cold since. The case has become four; the coffee pot has stayed.
The boutique has its own rhythm. Mornings are quiet and belong to repairs and resizing; the afternoons fill with families, often three generations at a time, choosing together.
The regulars
Some come every month just to have a ring cleaned and to see what is new. Others come once a year, before Nowruz, for a single piece. We know most of them by name, and many of them by the pieces they wear.
“People here buy slowly. They come back three times before they decide — and then they come back for years.”
Boutique manager, Erbil
The case that changes
One case is reserved for whatever has just arrived from the Beirut workshop. It changes every week, and the regulars know which day to come.
Thank you, Erbil, for two good years. The coffee is on us.
